K.S. Bhaskar V5.4-002 brings performance and scalability enhancements to GT.M: - The previous implementation of local variables has been replaced by one that scales well to large numbers of nodes at a given subscript level. FIS has internally validated its scalability to over one million nodes and also validated that it preserves or even slightly improves upon GT.M's traditional fast performance for local variables with smaller numbers of nodes. - On 64-bit editions of GT.M, the previous per-region limits of 65,536 global buffers and 2GB shared segment size are no longer limited by GT.M; of course, they remain limited by your actual computing platform. There are important enhancements to the trigger facility: - Trigger -xecute commands can span multiple lines. - The new ZTRIGGER command allows a trigger to be explicitly invoked under program control. - $ZTNAME replaces the deprecated $ZTCODE in the trigger signature. - The now permitted use of $ZTRIGGER() within a TP transaction allows trigger logic to be updated atomically within a transaction. Some restrictions apply. An "unlink all" capability for UNIX platforms allows a process to disassociate itself from all routines that it has linked, release memory, and continue execution with a new entryref at the top of the stack; local variables and IO devices are preserved across the transition. A new option generates code to evaluate elements of Boolean expressions in strict left-to-right order as an alternative to GT.M's default behavior which stops the evaluation of Boolean expressions once the final outcome is determined. This release includes the field test release of a new gtminstall script to simplify the downloading and installation of GT.M. [GT.M V5.4-002 itself is production grade software; the field test designation applies only to the script.] V5.4-002 contains numerous fixes, remedied mis-features, and smaller enhancements. For details refer to the Release Notes ( http://tinco.pair.com/bhaskar/gtm/doc/articles/ GTM_V5.4-002_Release_Notes.html). As the content management system for the FIS web site is undergoing some major changes, the announcement may not appear on it till later in the week. The software, however, is available in the usual locations, including http://sourceforge.net/projects/fis-gtm Regards -- Bhaskar ks dot bhaskar at fisglobal dot com <-- send e-mail here -- GT.M - Rock solid. Lightning fast. Secure. No compromises. ... |
