Помогите с "name:john;;sex:m;;".split(";");

Всем привет, подскажите пожалуйста почему "name:john;;sex:m;;".split(";"); возвращает массив из трех элементов, а не из четырех, ведь символ разделителя встречается 4 раза?*??? ... |

Наверное, потому что RTFM http://docs.oracle.com/javase/6/docs/api/java/lang/String.html#split(java.lang.String) Trailing empty strings are therefore not included in the resulting array. ... |
