SQL Server stores DTS packages in a table msdb..sysdtspackages.═ To move packages from one machine to another there are a few methods.

1. Open DTS package in design view in EM and save as .dts file.═ Open dts file in new SQL machine Enterprise Manager and save as to the local SQL Server. (no good if package has security)

2. Backup a copy of msdb and restore to new machine.═ This will move all packages but will wipe out existing info from msdb such as alerts, operators, SQL Agent Jobs and Agent configuration.

3. Backup copy of msdb from first machine and restore as a new database on the second machine.═ Set the allow updates option on, and insert rows into msdb from a select statement on sysdtspackages from restored copy of msdb.
Attention needs to be paid to the object owner_sid and owner.═ These must match an existing login in master..sysxlogins.

Note: moving a DTS package does not localise it to the new SQL Server.═ Any connections to the SQL Server will need to be edited in design view.
