Write-caching: should always be disabled or not?

Good day, "Lesson 1: Planning to Install SQL Server 2000" in "MCSE Training Kit: Microsoft SQL Server 2000 System Administration" book recommends to turn off write-caching on disk controllers. Does this mean that an Administrator should deselect option "Write cache enabled" in "Disk Properties" page of hard drive Properties for drive(s) used with SQL Server? Or I should contact hard drive vendor (IBM in my case) to verify that the drive supports SQL Server running with write-caching (safely supports)? Thanks Martin Rakhmanoff ... |
