Reason and Prerequisites

Inplace table reorganization is a DB2 utility that you can use to move rows online within the table object to establish clustering, reclaim free space, and eliminate overflow rows. As of DB2 10.5, the REORG INPLACE utility can also be used on tables with adaptive compression.

Due to a software defect, the REORG INPLACE operation may under certain conditions relocate a row to a new page with incorrect compression encoding on tables with adaptive compression. As a result, any subsequent access to this row will retrieve incorrect data or fail, because the contents of the row cannot be uncompressed correctly.

The problem exists in all DB2 10.5 Fix Packs up to and including DB2 10.5 FP3 SAP. REORG INPLACE operations on tables without adaptive compression are not affected.


Solution

On DB2 10.5 up to DB2 10.5 FP3 SAP: Do not use the REORG INPLACE operation on a table with adaptive compression enabled .

The fix for the problem is scheduled for DB2 10.5 FP4 with APAR IC99679.
